Huntington is the second largest, and one of the westernmost cities in West Virginia, situated along the banks of the Ohio River, right across from Ohio and just upriver from Kentucky. Huntington is home to Marshall University , a state-supported public university and home of the nationally recognized Thundering Herd sports program. Named for Collis P. Huntington, the railroad baron.
